Introduction

Distributed electrical Power, like any consumable product, must be conformed with well defined quality criteria:

  • Continuity of supply,

  • Harmonics,

  • Flicker,

  • Voltage variations,

  • Unbalance,

  • Frequency.

International standards (EN50160, IEC 1000-3-6/7) define quality of the supply.

To evaluate the quality of the electrical Power precisely, it is therefore necessary to use new-generation instruments, which are able to continuously monitor a large number of electrical parameters, which means complex real-time processing.

Initial characterisation of events and statistical processing allows the amount of data saved in the instruments to be reduced.

In addition, these instruments must be capable of permanently evolving to adapt to changes in the standards (it must be possible to re-configure all threshold values defined in these standards), and they must be capable of integrating new standards which are already under discussion today.

They must be equipped with different means of communication to acquire measurements remotely or locally.

Given the large number of measurements and their specific algorithms, it is necessary to transform these data into network quality information. Generally, advanced analysis software tools allow the generation of network status reports.
