Reactive energy compensation at low voltage can use one of two systems:

  • fixed system

  • automatic system

This choice depends on the following criterion:

ST (kVA) power rating of the HV/LV transformer.
Qc (kvar) power rating of the capacitor bank

Example 1

Qc = 80 kvar
ST = 800 kVA		 Qc = 10% ---> fixed system
ST

 

Example 2

Qc = 160 kvar
ST = 800 kVA		 Qc = 20% ---> automatic system
ST
